Change It Up
We all love our routines. Rituals that get us through our days, gives us structure to our busy lives, and help us stick to goals. There’s a comfort in our routines, to knowing what to expect, and sometimes our workouts can start to follow the same pattern.
Once we find a class we like, or a movement/exercise that feels good, we’ll keep going back, and we should. Our bodies will tell us what’s appropriate and safe, and if it feels good we’ll tend to keep doing it. But sometimes it’s beneficial to change it up, challenge your body in a new way, and see what happens! Will you get stronger in areas you’ve maybe been neglecting? Will you experience a different way of moving that will inform how you walk, run, hike or ride?
That’s why we love Pilates and the classes at our studio. Yes, Pilates is built on a set of specific exercises, and we’ll return to these over and over again, but trying the exercise with variations (like on another piece of equipment or on the mat!) can make them feel new each time we try them. Even taking from a different teacher can help you find different connections and new strength.
If you feel like you’re getting a bit “too comfortable” in your regular class, trying something different can infuse a new energy into old exercises and make everything feel fresh.
